Ferdinand Adolph Lange founded the company in 1845 in Glashütte, Saxony, and his son Richard joined in 1868, when it took its present name. The house was nationalised in 1948, after the war, and vanished as a brand for decades. Walter Lange and Günter Blümlein refounded it in 1990, and in 1994 they presented their first wristwatch collection with the Lange 1. It has been part of Richemont since 2000.
