Jehan-Jacques Blancpain founded the house in Villeret in 1735, which is why it presents itself as the oldest registered watch brand in the world. The family left management in 1932 and the firm was renamed Rayville. Jacques Piguet and Jean-Claude Biver revived it in 1983 and moved production to Le Brassus. It has been part of the Swatch Group since 1992, and its motto holds that it has never made a quartz watch and never will.
