Sotirios Voulgaris founded the house in Rome in 1884. Known for its jewellery, it moved into watchmaking in earnest in 1977 with the Bvlgari Bvlgari and set up its Swiss high-watchmaking subsidiary in 1980. The Serpenti bracelet watches date from the late 1940s. LVMH bought the family's controlling stake in 2011, and the Octo Finissimo collection has since built up several thinness records.
