History
Gary Burrell and Min Kao founded the company in October 1989 in Lenexa, Kansas, as ProNav, and its first product was a GPS unit. The name Garmin combines the first names of its two founders. Its headquarters moved to Olathe in 1996. Today its Forerunner, fēnix, Venu and Instinct sports watches are among the main alternatives to the Apple Watch for athletes and outdoor pursuits.
