Roland Schwertner registered Nomos Glashütte in 1990, shortly after German reunification, and in 1992 launched its first four models: Tangente, Orion, Ludwig and Tetra. The Tangente's design, by Susanne Günther, draws on Bauhaus purism. In 2014 it presented its own escapement, the Nomos swing system, to rely less on Swiss suppliers. In 2018 the Tangente Update won a prize at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève.
